My poor Roxie
I've been dealing with a sick dog and a sick child for a couple of days. DD was better on Friday; yesterday my wonderful Roxie dog had to go to the vet. She has pancreatitis and is in renal failure. She was severely dehydrated as well. She started with loss of appetite and a little diarrhea on Wednesday, and just got steadily worse. The vet is hoping her kidneys will recover once she's rehydrated, but is unsure if the pancreatitis is a result of the stomach upset or some other underlying cause (like cancer). Right now we're just waiting.
Roxie has been my constant companion and my competition obedience dog. She has Novice titles from the AKC, ASCA, Canada and UKC kennel clubs. She qualified for the Canadian HIT of HITs tournament (although we were unable to attend) and was in the top 10 in ASCA competition for two years in a row. We attended the Obedience Invitational at the ASCA National in Wisconsin in 2004, where she scored a 198-1/2 during one round, our highest score ever. She also went to the All-Star Tournament one year. She was an awesome competitor and an even better farm dog. She helped me with goats, alpacas and chickens equally, without ever wanting to eat the chickens (like Indy does). She is also an ideal foot-warmer when my feet are cold. I hope we can have at least a little more time with her. I need at least one more time to tell her what an awesome dog she is.

I hope she'll get better. There's no stronger human-animal bond than with a dog you've shared time training and showing.

Oh, best wishes to Roxie! Give her a big kiss right between the eyes from me.
